Restore Brazil is a Brazilian based non-profit seeking to develop indigenous leaders in Church Planting, Pastoral Training, and Mercy Ministry. Restore Brazil partners with many local churches from around the nations including Columbia, MO’s own Karis Church to extend the reach of resources and love into Brazil.
A short-cut used to share and demonstrate the opportunity and power of Short Term Mission Trips for local churches interested in Restore Brazil.
A short-cut tailor-fit for the local Karis Church family to understand how their missionaries are doing and how they, as a local church, can further participate in Brazil.
The Challenge
Bringing in internationals to be taught and to resource on-the-ground leaders is difficult. Doing so in neighborhoods controlled by drug traffickers makes it more difficult. Helping to bring visuals and a sense of identity to the Comunidades or Favelas through showing faces, families, and faith was the goal. Bringing this clarity to two audiences – Restore Brazil potential partners and Karis Church local body was the goal.
The Approach
Our team embedded ourselves within organization and culture to capture documentary style footage. We gained deep understanding and assumed the posture of a learner. Our planning included heavy front-end conversations to understand both organization’s interests and how to meet both tailor-fit needs in post-production by being intentional in production. We prepared for the unexpected including drug traffickers taking our cameras at one point (to which our local leader negotiated a return). We worked cross-culturally and linguistically through translation.
